Having been commissioned to undertake working drawings as well as achieving a Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 on this site, the first design issue to instigate was the M&E strategy. A decision was taken to fit each property with an Air Sourced Heat Pump and Solar PV Panels; this went a long way to ensuring compliance with the Code and achieve a local planning requirement to generate 10% of the energy demands for the development on site via the use of renewable technologies.
The site of ten units is split between seven houses for private sale and three houses that will be taken up by a local Housing Association and rented out at benchmark rents. A mixed development of this nature does not come without its complications, however the brick and rendered ‘theme’ was successfully carried through the site which allows the development to ‘fit’ seamlessly together.
